The X570 Motherboard and AMD Ryzen 3000 Series Processors Are Here!
Third Time's The Charm?
A very busy week indeed for PC hardware industry. We have the RTX Super, Radeon RX 5700 series coming up soon and most important of all, the first consumer's 7nm processors are here today. The AMD Ryzen 3000 series and the X570 motherboards.
Just as we get our hands on the 3rd Generation of Ryzen processors, the first review came from the Germany based PCGamesHardware, who had the full review of the Ryzen 7 3700X & Ryzen 9 3900X online. Below, we have provided you the results (albeit you'd need to be able to read German), including workload- and game benchmarks.
*As of today, there should be a plenty of reviews out there such as LinusTechTips and others.
AMD Ryzen 9 3900X and Ryzen 7 3700X Gaming Performance Leaks - Similar To 9th Gen Intel Processor.
Ryzen 9 3900X Consumes Less Power Than i9-9900K, Ryzen 7 3700X Consumes More Power Than Ryzen 7 2700X.
The performance benchmarks setup is as below:-
Latest drivers and BIOS were used with Turbo and SMT both enabled. Now let’s take a quick look at the specifications of the Ryzen 3000 CPUs lineup.
Let's do a quick specification "flashback" with the predecessor, the Ryzen 2000 series.,
Without further ado, let's go to the performance numbers. Both processors were tested in several AAA game titles. Please note that the test were conducted at 720P resolution for CPU-bound/ CPU intensive scenario.
In Far Cry 5, both processors performed around the same CPU performance in terms of Minimum and Max FPS. The max FPS was pretty close to the Core i7-7700K but the latter leads in terms of Minimum FPS which resulting in smoother gameplay experience.
In Rise of The Tomb Raider, the Ryzen 7 3700X turned out on par with the Core i7-7700K but the Ryzen 9 3900X came out a slight bit ahead of the latter.
In Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus both processors performed pretty well with about as much performance as the Core i5-8600K (6 core / 12 thread) CPU while the Core i7-7700K was a good 10 FPS faster in Min FPS.
Both of the Ryzen processors outperformed the entire Intel lineup in Assassin's Creed Origins (and possibly similar case with Assassin's Creed Odyssey) where they came out faster than the Core i9-9900K with up to 6 FPS+ on minimum.
Now let's check out how they performed in terms of productivity.
When it comes to encoding performance, the Ryzen 9 3900X was close to the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX (148 secs vs 142 secs) while the Ryzen 7 3700X was comparable with Core i9-9900K (212.8 secs vs 211.7 secs).
In Cinebench R15, the Ryzen 7 3700X delivered better performance than the Core i9-9900K with a single-core score of 207 points and a multi-core score of 2180 points. The Ryzen 9 3900X was faster than Intel’s Core i9-7980XE with a single
core score of 207 points and a multi-core score of 3218 points.
Next, we are going to discuss the power consumption. In both gaming and applications, the Ryzen 9 3900X had a power
consumption lower than the Core i9-9900K while offering more cores, threads and better I/O. The Ryzen 7 3700X was, however, a bit more power hungry than its 12nm predecessor, Ryzen 7 2700X, despite the former being a 95W chip and the 3700X, a 65W chip based on the 7nm node.
AMD’s X570 platform and Ryzen 3000 CPUs are available now whilst the flagship AMD Ryzen 9 3950X will be available in September 2019.
